Some desserts don’t need to be fancy to feel like a hug. This Pear Crumble is one of those recipes you make when you want the house to smell warm and comforting—when you want something sweet, but not too sweet, and you want it to feel real. Like fruit. Like cinnamon. Like a golden topping that crackles a little when you tap it with a spoon.
It’s also the kind of dessert that makes an ordinary evening feel special.
Because pears have that quiet, gentle sweetness. They’re softer than apples, a little floral, almost honey-like when baked. And when they cook down in the oven, they turn into this juicy, tender filling that feels naturally luxurious—without needing anything complicated.
But the real magic of crumble is the contrast.
You get that soft, warm fruit underneath… and on top, a buttery, cinnamon crumble that bakes into golden crumbs. Not a cookie. Not a cake. Something in between—crispy edges, tender bits, and that perfect “just one more bite” texture.
This version keeps things simple and cozy:
- Coconut sugar adds a deeper caramel note (less sharp, more warm).
- Cinnamon brings the bakery vibe instantly.
- Vegan butter makes the crumble rich and crisp without any dairy.
And for the filling, we use a small but important trick: cornstarch.
Because pears release a lot of juice as they bake, and cornstarch helps that juice turn into a glossy, spoonable filling instead of a watery puddle. You still get the bubbling, jammy fruit—just thicker, richer, more “crumble-worthy.”
Then you layer it all into a dish, sprinkle the topping generously (no need to be perfect), and let the oven do the rest.
Around the 30-minute mark, your kitchen starts to smell like cinnamon and warm fruit—and that’s usually when people suddenly “appear” and ask what you’re making.
When it comes out, it’s golden on top and bubbling around the edges. And yes, it’s tempting to dig in immediately—but letting it cool for at least 20 minutes is what turns it from “hot fruit” into that thick, cozy crumble filling that holds together on a spoon.
Serve it warm for maximum comfort. Serve it cold for a sneaky fridge snack the next day. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you want the full cozy-dessert experience… or keep it simple, because it honestly doesn’t need much.
This Pear Crumble is proof that the best desserts are often the easiest ones:
a few ingredients, one baking dish, and a little time in the oven.
Comfort food—but the kind that feels light, seasonal, and quietly perfect.
